DJ J1 BIO

Born and raised in Harlem, New York, DJ J1 was exposed to a variety of music at an early age. At age seven he began taking piano lessons at the Harlem School of The Arts, and first started DJ’ing at age 14. Some of his early musical influences were Notorious BIG, 2-Pac, Wu-Tang Clan and a Tribe Called Quest; J1 was also inspired by hometown DJ’s, DJ Clue and DJ S&S, among others.

Eventually, he would put DJ’ing to the side in favor of promoting nightlife events. In 1999, he took his success as a promoter to Atlanta, GA, and threw some of the hottest events in the city, however, djing was still his passion. So in 2003 he went back to his 1st love and began his journey to greatness.

 Since, J1 has spun at various events and venues in and around Atlanta, such as Compound, Leopard Lounge, The Mark, Pure, The Velvet Room, One Midtown Kitchen, D’jangos, Fox Sports Grill and Bar, and many more. He was recently a guest DJ on BET’s Rap City, and is also the co-founder of the Urban Legends Music Academy, an organization that teaches inner-city school students the positive aspects of Hip-Hop music, including its history and entrepreneurship possibilities as well as the fundamentals of DJ’ing. In addition, he works with several local artists, producing mix CD‘s and assisting with artist development.

Currently DJ J1 Works At Hot 107.9 In Atlanta where he does production work & spins On-Air live Monday at 9pm Tuesday & Thursday at 5pm Thursday Night 10pm-2am from Pure Atlanta, Saturday Night 10pm-2am From Club Motions, and Sunday From The Velvet Room.
